Essentials for our Community Didsbury will be spending the month of November on the road.
President Sheree Andrews says they are very excited that the Town of Didsbury will be renovating the Train Station and redoing all of the flooring in there, but that means Essentials for our Community Didsbury won’t be in its usual space for a month.
She notes the Lutheran Church has graciously offered them space there for the entire month of November where they will be operating the same hours as usual but just from that location. As a result of not being in their usual space, Andrews points out that unfortunately they won’t have access to most of their extra supplies they use for cooking their meals every week. So they will be doing a little more take-out or ready made stuff and the cost, of course, is a lot higher than making everything from scratch. They are asking for community sponsors – your family or your company – to come out and sponsor a meal.
Andrews adds, they had a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner on October 10th. She says they provided 40 meals to a program in Olds that gives meals to people in need, and they fed about 130 people in Didsbury. She says “everyone was really blessed. We even had one family even say this was their only Thanksgiving meal because they have no family and it was a lady with two children. So it was really nice to know that she felt like we were her family for that holiday and that they all looked forward to coming.”
On a typical week, Andrews points out that they serve about 80 to 100 people during their Thursday night meal.
They are currently looking for food to be donated including canned goods and take-out items. She says they also are in need of mitts and toques.
Message them on the Essentials for our Community Didsbury Facebook page for more details or to sponsor a Thursday night meal.
