Drug trafficking investigation leads to arrests by Innisfail RCMP and SCAN team

Innisfail RCMP have collaborated with the newly created Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods team to make several arrests and shut down a drug house.

The provincial government announced the formation of a new team of investigators for the city of Red Deer and its surrounding communities and rural areas last month.

SCAN teams for the Alberta Sheriffs already existed in Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge.

On Tuesday (November 5th), Innisfail RCMP – along with assistance from partners including the SCAN team – executed search warrants a three residences in Innisfail. According to police, a total of 12 people were arrested during the search and it resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine, suspected methamphetamine, a taser, and items related to the sale of controlled drugs.

A 38-year-old man, a 46-year-old man, along with a 38-year-old woman, and a 45-year-old woman all faces charges and have upcoming court dates in the near future in Red Deer.

Mounties say “the remainder of the persons arrested were released pending further police investigation.”

Staff Sergeant Ian Ihme, Detachment Commander with the Innisfail RCMP, stated that “these individuals and properties were actively engaged in the distribution of drugs in the community.” He noted “this joint effort was successful in interrupting them in the short term and we will work to ensure longer term solutions.”
