Mountain View Colts Pick Up A Win And A Loss Over 2 Game Weekend

The Mountain View Colts continue to fight for positioning in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division, after a weekend that saw them pick up a win and a loss.

On Friday night, the Colts snapped a 2 game losing streak by blowing out the Stampeders by a score of 7-1 in Ponoka.

Konnor Poitras netted a hat trick in Friday’s win, while Ryder Hammer added 3 helpers.

The Colts powerplay picked up some momentum in Ponoka as well, finishing 5/11 on the night.

On Saturday night, the Colts returned home for a matchup with the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

The Wranglers have been dominant this season, entering Saturday’s contest 3 points up on Okotoks for first place overall in the HJHL.

Brock Lott would get the nod for Sylvan Lake, as the former Colt made his return to the Didsbury Memorial Complex.

Lott would watch his Wranglers take a 2-0 lead in the 1st period, thanks to tallies from Maddex Bignell at even strength and Reed Sparrow on the powerplay.

Konnor Poitras would again light the lamp, but that was all the offense the Colts could generate on Saturday.

Sylvan Lake would hang onto a 2-1 lead into the late stages of the 3rd period, until eventually goals from Josh Perreault and Justin Gyori would put the contest out of reach late in the game.

Nicholas Smith made his 7th start for Mountain View, stopping 24/28 shots faced in the loss. Smith is now (6-4) with 3 shutouts and a .923 save percentage this season.

The win boosts Sylvan Lake’s record to (16-1), while Mountain View slips to (7-10) with the loss.

The Colts have 14 points and are 4th in the Northern Division, 2 back of 3rd place Airdrie.

Prior to tonight’s game, CKFM caught up with Colts’ Head Coach Ron Doig.

The Colts are now idle until Friday night, when they welcome the Coaldale Copperheads to the Didsbury Memorial Complex.

Live coverage of that game can be heard on 96.5 CKFM.
