Mountain View Colts Lose In Heartbreaking Fashion

The Mountain View Colts dropped a heartbreaker on Friday night, as part of this weekend’s Heritage Junior Hockey League action at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.

The Coaldale Copperheads made the trek to the DMC for the first time this season, to tangle with the Colts for the second time this year.

The Colts had previously defeated the Copperheads by a score of 7-3 on November 3rd in Coaldale.

The looks appeared to be well on their way to another positive result tonight, after Simon Leischner and Haiden Parks both scored to put the Colts up 2-0 midway through the 1st.

Nathan Verloop would get one back for Coaldale, but that was quickly followed up by a Ryder Hammer powerplay goal on a beautiful set up by Rhett Miller.

That would give the Colts a 3-1 lead that they would hold onto into the 3rd period of play.

Riley Preachuk netted his 3rd of the season minutes into the final frame, setting up a thrilling ending at the DMC.

The Colts would see multiple powerplays go by the way side and with just 12 seconds to go, a goal mouth scramble would lead to a loose puck jumping free to Verloop, who would make no mistake in burring his second goal of the game.

Mountain View had their chances in overtime, with end to end action during 3 on 3 play.

However, it would not be the Colts night.

With just 00.01 seconds on the board, a mad scramble in front of the Colts net would eventually be put home by Preachuk, scoring his second of the contest at the 5:00 mark of overtime.

Nicolas Smith would make 27 saves in the loss.

The defeat no doubt will put a sour taste in the Colts mouths, who will look to get back into the win column tomorrow night when they take on the Southern Division leading Okotoks Bisons.
