Alberta Seeks Public “All Aboard!” With Survey On Passenger Rail Project

Alberta is advancing its plans for a passenger rail system to address the province’s growing transportation needs.

On November 22nd, global rail experts gathered in the province to share insights and best practices for the development of the Passenger Rail Master Plan.

In a news release from the province, Premier Danielle Smith highlighted Alberta’s commitment to innovation, stating, “We believe there is opportunity and demand for passenger rail services in Alberta.”

The plan includes commuter rail systems in Calgary and Edmonton, along with a regional rail line linking the two cities. The government believes there is significant demand for passenger rail to improve connectivity and support economic growth.

To gather public feedback, Alberta has launched an online survey, open until December 20th.

The results will help guide the development of the rail system, with further engagement planned through regional open houses in early 2025.

The survey can be found at Alberta.ca/Passenger Rail.

The Passenger Rail Master Plan is expected to be completed by summer 2025, including feasibility studies, financial assessments, and a long-term implementation plan.
