Grizzlys get outgunned early and often by Eagles

The Bears were unable to slow down the Birds on Tuesday at the SportsComplex.

The high flying Canmore Eagles extended their winning streak to six games by outscoring the Olds Grizzlys 9-2 on January 28th. It was 4-0 for the visitors before the 10 minute mark of the first period, 7-0 after 20 minutes, and 9-0 by the 4:11 mark of period two.

Canmore now leads the Alberta Junior Hockey League standings with a record of 27-9-4-1. The Eagles are 5 points better than any other team in the AJHL so far this season.

The Grizzlys have lost 3 straight. They fall to 14-25-1-0. Olds continues to reside in the South Division basement, 15 points back of Drumheller and the Division’s fourth and final playoff spot.

Rookie forward Johnathan Doucette (2006) from Massachusetts scored a power play goal for the OGs in the second period.

Only five AJHL rookies have registered more points than Doucette this season. He leads the Grizzlys with 34 points in 40 games.

Rookie forward Michael Albert (2006) from California also tallied in the loss for Olds.

Albert now has two goals and four points in 32 games during his freshman year in the AJHL. He also drew the penalty that led to Doucette’s goal against Canmore.
