As heard on 96.5 The Ranch on Friday night, the Mountain View Colts defeated the Thrashers 5-3 in Three Hills.
The Colts shared the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing last week of their goalie coach and assistant coach, Bryce Quaschnick.
Prior to Friday’s game 96.5 The Ranch spoke with Colts Head Coach Ron Doig. He says “it’s been a tough week. You know, we knew about it. He kind of got.. went down last weekend right after one of our games and, you know, he was on the ice with us last week and texting us about a game on Friday and then this kind of comes up pretty sudden. So, its been a hard week. It’s been hard on everybody. I think tonight is going to be hard on us. We’ll get through it.”
Mountain View’s Heritage Junior Hockey League organization passed along its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. According to the Colts social media post “his legacy will live on in every player he coached, every lesson he taught, and every life he made better through his love of hockey.”
Meanwhile, with the regular season now, over the Colts will now move on to the Heritage Junior Hockey League playoffs.
Mountain View finished third in the Northern Division and will meet up with the second place Red Deer Vipers for a best of five series. The dates and times for those games have yet to be determined.
The HJHL’s Northern Division playoffs get underway with the best of three play-in series between the fifth place Three Hills Thrashers and the fourth place Thunder tomorrow night in Airdrie. The winner of that series will advance to play the first place Sylvan Lake Wranglers.
