Mountain View Colts shut out in Game #1

The Mountain View Colts began their 2025 Heritage Junior Hockey League post season campaign on Saturday night in losing fashioning, dropping game #1 of the Northern Division Semi Finals by a score of 5-0.

The Colts finished #3 in the Northern Division standings during the regular season, setting up a best of 5 series with the #2 ranked Red Deer Vipers.

The Vipers would get the action started quickly on Saturday night, taking a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Mason Hastings and Mason Hammerback.

The Colts would try to wrestle some momentum back in the 2nd period with some powers play opportunities, but Brady Leroux would be the period’s only goal scorer giving Red Deer a 3-0 lead after 40.

Hastings would go on to pot a empty netter in the 3rd period, capping the win for the Vipers.

Nicholas Smith was steady all night making 20 saves for Mountain View, but it was Meyer Gaume who would steal the show in Game #1. The Red Deer goalie made 48 saves for his first post season win and shutout.

Colts Co-Captain, Simon Leischner, joined 96.5 The Ranch following tonight’s game.

 

Mountain View Assistant Coach, Ryan Doig, also spoke following the Colts game #1 loss.

The best of 5 series will now shift to the Three Hills Centennial Place Arena for Game #2 on Monday night at 7:30. Game #3 will come on Wednesday night back at Servus Arena in Red Deer.
