The U18 AA Grizzlys are heading into their playoff tournament on a hot streak.
They finished the regular season on a 7-1-and-2 run in their final 10 games.
Olds celebrated 11 graduating players and clinched first place in the Central Division of the Alberta Elite Hockey League over the weekend.
Saturday’s graduating player night contest saw the U18 AA Grizzlys top the East Kootenay Avalanche 5-4. Colin MacDougall backstopped Olds to the victory in net, while multi-point performances were turned in by Ayden Backstrom, Sawyer Cambell, and Nate Smith.
The U18 AA Grizzlys secured top spot in the division with an overall record of 19-9-and-6.
The Grizzlys were led offensively this season by Nate Smith and Sawyer Campbell who wound up third and fourth respectively among all U18 AA skaters in the province. Smith had 64 points while Campell had 63.
Olds heads north to Lacombe as the Central Alberta Selects will be hosting the Central Division playoff tourney from this Thursday through Sunday. The Grizzlys will start the tourney on Thursday morning at 10:30 by taking on the Red Deer Elks.
