National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day Results

More than 170 impaired drivers were removed from Alberta’s roadways during the Victoria Day long weekend.

Alberta RCMP were out in full force conducting enhanced traffic enforcement targeting impaired drivers from May 17th through the 20th.

May 18th was National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day and police used it to focus their efforts on removing drug and alcohol impaired drivers from the province’s roads and highways.

According to RCMP, a total of 173 impaired drivers were removed from the roads this year during the May long weekend. 42 of them occurred across 36 organized check stops on National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

Mounties say the consequences for impaired driving include a 90-day suspension, one year of mandatory ignition interlock, a 30-day vehicle seizure, a $1,000 dollar fine, and a criminal record.
