A significant drug seizure has been made by the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team.
Inspector Heide Ravenhill stated in a press release “A great deal of effort and resources were used to safely arrest this repeat offender who has previously demonstrated a willingness to put the public at risk while fleeing apprehension.”
Mounties say a repeat offender was observed operating a motor vehicle while prohibited on Wednesday (May 29th).
According to RCMP, additional resources were brought in due to the offender’s history of dangerous driving and flight from police including ramming a police vehicle.
Eventually the suspect was safely arrested and police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. It resulted in the seizure of small amounts of various suspected drugs, over 1.3 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, and a loaded handgun.
A 38 year old male Red Deer resident, Mitchell Lewis Engler, faces charges including possession of body armour, two counts of driving while prohibited, five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, and six counts of weapons offences.
He has been remanded into custody and is slated to appear in court in Red Deer on June 4th.
The Calgary Police HAWCS helicopter, Innisfail RCMP, Police Dog Services, the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, and the RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Team were among the additional resources brought in for this case.
