Alberta’s Minister Of Education Tours Skilled Trades Facilities At Olds College

Alberta’s Minister of Education says coming to see dual credit programming ‘first hand’ on Thursday, June 20th in the Town of Olds was helpful as the government looks to create more opportunities for it in the province in the future.
Demetrios Nicolaides says “We have a shortage of skilled trades professionals and in order to keep our province moving along we need to encourage more young people to see success and opportunities in the trades. One of the ways that we can do that is by letting them actually experience it and dual credit is pathway to help them do that.”
While touring around the campus of Olds College of Agriculture & Technology, Nicolaides was able to learn about successes for dual credit programming and areas where there is possible improvement. He says “With our high schools and with our post-secondary partners, like right here at Olds College and Red Deer Polytechnic, we have some amazing facilities and spaces where students can have the opportunity to try trades, explore those pathways and see what really works for them. So anything that we can do to open up more of those doors, I think we have to pursue.”
Alberta’s Education Minister toured around the Olds College campus on Thursday as part of a Central Alberta Collegiate Institute event.
Nicolaides calls C-A-C-I an amazing partnership between a variety of different school divisions in the community, as well as polytechnic post-secondary institutions and he was happy to be in Olds to support their efforts and encourage them to keep on going.
