The Alberta Professional Chuckwagon and Chariot Association spent two very hot days in Paradise Valley over the weekend.
However, chuckwagon driver Allan Bengston from Bluffton didn’t mind the heat. He was able to earn his first ever victory. Bengston – who has been racing for with the pros for 14 years – posted the top time on both days with a run of 67.65 seconds on Saturday, June 22nd and an even quicker 65.94 seconds on Sunday, June 23rd.
Bengston and runner-up Rob Nordick from Ardrossan were both in Heat 1 as part of a total field of 12 APCCA drivers in the wagons. Nordick placed second on Saturday and third on Sunday and for the weekend his total running time of 137.04 was just behind Bengston’s 133.59.
Meanwhile, there were 7 heats and 20 total chariots on the track in Paradise Valley. In the end, Breanna O’Connor from Wizard Lake who rolled across the finish line with the top total time for two days of racing – 132.20 seconds.
Up next for the Alberta Professional Chuckwagon and Chariot Association is three days of racing from this Saturday, June 29th through Canada Day (July 1st) in Sedgewick.
