Consort RCMP Make 2 Arrests Following Copper Wire Theft Investigation

RCMP have made 2 arrests following investigation into copper wire thefts affecting Alberta’s Critical Infrastructure.

In the weeks leading up to the arrests, Consort and Coronation RCMP developed a strategic plan with local industry to locate suspects on oil sites stealing copper wire.

On July 1st at around 10PM, as a result of this partnership, police were able to locate two suspects on the oil site in the process of stealing copper wire.

The suspects were taken into custody without incident but have a firearm in their vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Consort RCMP have charged 2 residents of Coronation with multiple charges including Break and Enter into a Business and Possession of Break and Enter Instruments.

Both accused have court appearances set for July 12th at the Alberta Court of Justice in Coronation.

Copper wire thefts directly impact Alberta’s Critical Infrastructure and has a large economic impact on all Canadians.

The cost of replacing stolen copper wire is passed on to the consumers and in some cased the companies terminate their employees in the areas where the wire was stolen instead of replacing it.
