AHS Encourages Albertans To Stay Cool

[ras_zone zid="427" class="awide"]

With an ongoing heat wave across most of the province, Alberta Health Services is encouraging Albertans to take some simple precautions so they can safely enjoy activities when it’s hot and sunny this summer.

Many factors can cause heat stress, such as UV radiation, temperature and humidity.

Make sure to check on loved ones, especially those who may be socially isolated or live in housing without air conditioning, to see how they are coping.

Older adults, infants, pregnant women and people with underlying health conditions are at greatest risk from extreme heat.

AHS says to drink plenty of water, do activities early or late in the day when it’s cooler, and wear sunscreen with an SPF 30 rating or higher.

Albertans are also reminded to think about their furry friends during this heatwave, AHS reminds residents to never leave your pet in an unattended vehicle, and brush them as often as you can to cool them off.
