Fire Ban Now In Place For All Of Forest Protection Area

Ongoing hot and dry conditions have promoted the Government of Alberta to implement a fire ban for the entire Forest Protection Area.

The province says that 137 new wildfires have started since July 1st and in response, Alberta is implementing a fire ban encompassing all of the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.

All fire permits issued by Alberta’s government in that area are now suspended or cancelled, and no new fire permits will be issued while the ban is in place.

This ban prohibits all outdoor wood fires, including wood campfires on public land, private land, designated campgrounds and backyard fire pits are strictly prohibited in the Forest Protection Area.

It is still permissible to use propane and natural gas-powered appliances, and indoor wood fires inside a structure, such as a building, tent or RV.

Alberta saw over 1000 wildfires in 2023.

To report a wildfire, call 310 FIRE.
