Charges Laid Following Officer Involved Shooting Near Carstairs In June

RCMP have made one arrest following a flee from police that led to shots fired on the QE2 highway near Carstairs on June 22nd.

At around 11:40pm, Alberta RCMP were notified by Calgary Police Service of a suspect that had previously fled from police and was being covertly followed by HAWKS helicopter.

CPS officers worked together with member of the Olds and Didsbury RCMP detachments to deploy a tire deflation device and successful disabled the vehicle on the QE2 near Highway 581.

A traffic stop was conducted and there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police resulting in no injuries to police or the suspect.

Police were able to eventually make verbal contact with the suspect and successfully deescalated the incident.

The suspect then surrendered to police.

Further investigation by the Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section and Calgary Police Service into the incident have led to the arrest of a Calgary man.

The accused faces a number of charges, including 2 counts of Mischief under $5000, flight from police and 2 counts of discharge of a firearm with intent to wound.

RCMP say the investigation continues and further charges may be pursued.
