Tragedy Strikes Twice In Rocky View County Over A Three Day Period

Mounties responded to two separate fatal motor vehicle collisions in Rocky View County over a span of three days.

The first was a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 564 on Friday (July 26th) at 10am and it involved a semi truck hauling a grain trailer and a small sport utility vehicle.

According to police, all four occupants of the SUV were deceased at the scene. They included a 62-year female from Calgary, a 38-year old male from Calgary, as well as an adult male and an adult female in their 60s from the Philippines.

Mounties say the driver of the semi truck sustained minor injuries and was assessed by EMS on scene.

Through their investigation, RCMP believe the south bound semi truck struck the SUV as it rolled through the stop sign to make a north bound turn on Highway 9 in Rocky View County.

Meanwhile, Cochrane RCMP were called to the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 22 and Township Road 281 in Rocky View County.

It happened at about 1:15am on Sunday (July 28th).

Initial reports indicated that a truck hauling a trailer and a sport utility vehicle were both heading north on Highway 22 and police say the collision took place when the truck over corrected coming back onto the road surface from the shoulder of the highway. According to RCMP, the SUV collided with the trailer being pulled.

The 19-year old male driver of the truck was pronounced deceased on scene in Rocky View County.

The SUV had three occupants. Two males and a female. They were all 26-years old. All three were treated for non-life threatening injuries and taken by ground ambulance to area hospital.

In both cases, RCMP express their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
