The national junior ‘A’ hockey championship tournament is coming to Calgary next year.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Calgary Canucks have won the bid to host the 2025 Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons.
According to a press release from the Canucks, the tourney will be held at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary from May 8th through the 18th.
This will be the first time the City of Calgary has hosted Hockey Canada’s Centennial Cup tournament. The Calgary Canucks won their tenth AJHL championship last season by defeating the Whitecourt Wolverines in the best-of-seven final four games to one. It was Calgary’s first league title since 1999.
As a result, the Canucks then advanced to the 2024 Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario where they lost out in the semifinals 2-1 to the SJHL’s Melfort Mustangs. The OJHL’s Collingwood Blues claimed the Centennial Cup for 2024 by beating Melfort 1-0 in the gold medal game.
