Pedestrian killed in collision on Highway 2 near Airdrie

Airdrie RCMP responded to fatal collision during the early morning hours on Sunday.

At about 1:05am yesterday (September 8th), Airdrie RCMP, Fire and EMS, received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Highway 2 near Airdrie.

Mounties say the collision occurred when the vehicle, which was traveling southbound on Highway 2 near Edmonton Trail, collided with the pedestrian.

The victim had been hit by a vehicle and was transported to a Calgary hospital with life threatening injuries, according to police. The man, who was identified as a 72-year-old resident of Airdrie, later succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital.

Airdrie RCMP note that the driver of the vehicle and the four passengers were not injured.

RCMP sends deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
