Grizzlys earn first win of brand new AJHL season by beating Dragons in Drumheller

The Olds Grizzlys evened up their record at 1 and 1 thanks to third period comeback on Saturday night in Drumheller.

Forward Mitch Patrick (2006) from Airdrie tied it at 2-all, and then Johnathan Doucette (2006) from Boston, Massachusetts scored what turned out to be the game winning goal with less than 7 minutes to go in regulation time as the Grizzlys beat the Dragons 3-2.

Forward Braeden Veldhuizen (2007) from Calgary had a goal and two assists for Olds, while Connor Johnson (2006) from Calgary earned his first AJHL victory by making 30 saves in net for the Black & Gold. For both Doucette and Veldhuizen the goals were their first in the AJHL.

The Grizzlys had dropped their home and regular season opener 9-4 to the Dragons in front of more than 700 fans on Friday night as the 2024-2025 Alberta Junior Hockey League season began.

Olds is idle until making a trip up to Grande Prairie to play the Storm this Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st.
