Spartans hoping for big crowd as they return to Normie Kwong Park in Week 4

The Ecole Olds High School Spartans hit the field for more football action on Thursday, September 19th.
Week 4 of their high school football season will see them return home to host the High River Mustangs.
Spartans Coach Kent Lorenz was asked to highlight some of the young players that have flashed with their potential through their first three games on offense. He says “I would have to say that Gabe Drent and Ethan Pedersen as first year Spartans have really stood out. As well as, Aiden (Knoppen) has done a fantastic job.”
He pointed out a few of the young players on defense who have caught his eye with their performances so far. Lorenz says “there is a number of them but Ryder Raven is having a really good camp and has done well. Daegen Molenduik, Bailey Manton are grade 10s and they are just really working hard to contribute to the team. As far as our vets go, (on offense) Radek Heppner has been playing fantastic. Defensively, Riley Watkins and Zach Vollmin, and Sam Andrew have been, you know, stellar back there for us.”
The Spartans record stands at 2 and 1 this season. They suffered their first loss of the year last week in Lloydminster when they were beaten 64-0 by the top ranked 3-A high school in the province – the Holy Rosary Raiders.
As a result Olds dropped from 8 to 10 in this week’s rankings for schools with a population between 200 and 799 students. The Spartans wins this season were by scores of 39-0 at home over Calgary’s North Trail Nighthawks and 35-25 on the road versus the Drumheller Titans.
Lorenz expects to see well over 200 fans to come out and support the Spartans at 4pm on Thursday when they try to tackle the High River Mustangs at Normie Kwong Park.
If you are going to the game, he says they will have hot dogs and chips available so just bring your noise makers and a lawn chair to sit on and have some fun cheering on the Spartans.
