The Mountain View Colts point streak was halted at 4 games on Saturday night, as the High River Flyers pulled away in the 3rd period on Saturday night at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
Saturday’s game marked the second matchup of the year between the Flyers and the Colts, who had met previously on October 13th in a 4-2 home victory for High River.
The Colts came into Saturday night having dropped a 5-4 overtime loss to the Red Deer Vipers at the DMC on Friday night.
The game started with end-to-end rushes and plenty of excitement, as 3 of the league’s top 10 scores would take to the ice in tonight’s game.
Chaz Lazar (5) broke the deadlock on the powerplay just 4:46 seconds into the game, giving High River a 1-0 edge.
Wyatt Bailey (11) continued his terrific rookie year, as he potted home a picture-perfect feed from Steven Bell on the Colts’ first PP of the game to level things at 1.
Ethan Burgeson scored the second PPG of the night for High River just 4 minutes later, before Bell (11) pounced on a neutral zone turnover to score a beautiful breakaway goal to once again tie things up at 2-2 heading into the first intermission.
Both teams would trade goals in the second, with Trenton Hirsche (2) giving Mountain View a brief lead at 3-2 before Jagger Marshal (10) would answer back for High River.
After 40 minutes, the game was there to be had.
High River came out flying to start the 3rd period, as Tanner Willford (7) found a hole through Jordan McGinnis to put the Flyers up 4-3.
Wout Rehorst added 2 goals (5) including the eventual game-winner, while Connor Smith (22) and Ethan Burgeson (11) added goals as the Flyers stormed out and scored 6 unanswered goals, 5 of them in the 3rd period.
Wyatt Bailey (12) would add his second of the game to eventually make it an 8-4 final at the DMC, as Mountain View suffers only their 4th regulation defeat on home ice this season.
McGinnis would go on to make 32 saves in the loss, while Kashton Payne turned aside 27/31 to earn his 6th win of the year.
Colts Head Coach, Dan Visser, was frustrated post-game with how things shook out in the 3rd period.
Next up for the Colts is their final road trip of the season, they play out their road schedule with games on Friday night in Rocky and Saturday in Sylvan Lake.
The next broadcast of Mountain View Colts hockey on 96.5 CKFM will come on February 9th when the Colts play host to Sylvan Lake.
