The Mountain View Colts would cap a wonderful night at the Didsbury Memorial Complex with a 7-5 victory over the Airdrie Techmation Thunder in the annual Rural Alberta Motorcycle Ride For Dad Charity Game.
The Colts were coming off the heels of 2 back to back losses to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, who defeated the Colts 4-1 on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Airdrie entered tonight’s contest with a record of (4-4-2) over their last 10 games played.
Saturday night was a special one for the Colts’ organization, who had put together a silent auction and pledge a player bid to gather up as much money as they could for Ride For Dad and the fight against prostate cancer.
Post-game, the Colts organization presented a cheque worth just over $13,000 to Ride For Dad. All money raised will go to supporting those in our province in the fight against that awful disease.
On the ice, Mountain View would come out firing in the first period.
Ashton Rach (1) would fire home is first of the season to put the Colts up 1-0 just over 5 minutes into the contest, while Steven Bell (13) blasted home a powerplay goal to put the blue and red up 2-0 at the 1st intermission.
Prior to the puck drop in the second period, a longtime volunteer with the Mountain View Colts was gifted a framed autographed jersey from the organization.
Past President Keith Klinck was awarded the jersey in recognition of his dedicated work for the organization and it’s players over the years.
Keith had watched 2 of his sons don the Mountain View Colts crest over the year. His oldest son Ryan was a member of the 2016 HJHL Champion Colts team, while Allan would serve as the Colts Captain for 2 seasons between 2019 and 2021.
Meanwhile, the second period saw plenty of scoring action.
Rookie Cohen Richardson (22) would put the Colts up 3-0 early into the middle frame, but it wasn’t to last.
Aidrie would score 3 goals in less than 5 minutes with Jack Turton (6), Tanner Chapman (11) and Rodie John Pickens (5) all scoring in quick succession to tie the game at 3-3.
Simon Leischner (5) would get one back for Mountain View, before Airdrie would once again tie the game thanks to a late-period goal from Tyson Sanhu (4).
The game was in balance heading into the 3rd period, where the Colts would take control.
Paton Rothenbusch would set a new career high when he potted his 8th goal of the season, while Jay Heistad (8) would add another and Leischner (6) scored his second of the night to put the Colts ahead 7-4.
Airdrie would get a late goal from Sandhu (5) but it would be the Colts night, as they skate away with a 7-5 win.
Brock Lott made his second consecutive start turning aside 32/36 for the win, while Austin White kicked out 37/44 in the loss.
Post game, Captain Paton Rothenbusch was all smiles after setting a new career high.
Simon Leischner was also pleased, adding he’s looking forward to Monday.
Next up for the Colts is a Monday night affair with the Three Hills Thrashers, puck drop is set for 8:30 from the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
